We were staying at Portbane, advertised as their “most luxurious property”, obviously their idea of luxury differs from mine , here is a long list of what sadly was wrong with this property.||Toilets, u- bends, all but one were brown with poo staining.||Upstairs small shower room broken, only produced scalding water||Downstairs wet room became the only standing up shower as the other en-suites are baths with sitting down shower attachments- very unpractical and whilst running a bath downstairs, there’s a lack of water upstairs!||Bay windowed lounge area a disaster! Curtain track missing a middle section therefore you can’t close the curtains. One curtain had half the hooks missing and was hanging off the track with foam sealant on it. Orange foam sealant trying to repair the curtain track. Window seat was tired with a hole in it complete with human and dog hairs. Variety cereal box and wrapper with coloured pen under window seat cushion. More rubbish under the window seat cupboards. Filthy under one of the sofas , thick with dust and rubbish including a dogs ball, a ball, a half drunk water bottle, a chocolate bar and empty cereal wrapper, pen underneath the other sofa.||Dead moths, flies and curtain hooks on the window ledge. Utility room cupboard MICE DROPPINGS AND URINE and mice trap, cobwebs useless bit of wood, stones placed on ground to try to stop the mice. The beds and chest of drawers all thick with dust and various items left from previous guests including sock, sock packet, jelly bean, tissue etc. The kitchen area, 2 chairs completely unusable as they were caved in, all were stained. Kitchen bin area marked with food staining on the walls.The hob had a large crack in it and couldn’t get it to work. Useless bits of tat around the place including bits of wood in kitchen cupboards, Scrabble game with no letters, fairy lights with no batteries, radio with no cable etc. POSSIBLE HEALTH HAZARD! The downstairs bedroom with bathroom backs onto the oil tank outside, there was an awful smell of oil in both the bedroom and bathroom area, much more evident in the evening/night time, I was concerned about this and took one of the carbon monoxide monitors that was lying about and placed it in the bathroom where the oil smell was the greatest just to be on the safe side. The walls of the house were badly chipped and marked in places and stains on the hall carpet. Now onto the garden area! The grass on arrival clearly hadn’t been cut in weeks and was uninviting and scruffy looking, there is a type of running bamboo in the garden and a piece of this was sticking up in the path area which was a trip hazard, I stamped down on it. The private garden had a couple in it who had walked over from the marina ( bear in mind this is where the sauna is and you may have only swimming costumes etc on) ||The Manager came over to see the issues with this house and agreed that there were clearly issues here, he said he would want this place shut down to reassess, but looking on the bookings website, I can’t see that happening as it’s all booked up! We were offered a cleaner to come round to clean, but this place should be beautiful and spotless prior to our arrival, we didn’t want to have cleaners round and waste time on our short stay. Apparently chairs had been ordered, but that was too late for our visit. I asked the manager had anyone else complained about this house, and yes, the previous guests had too!!! For the best part of £3,500 for a four night stay this was highly unacceptable. They have offered a one nights stay reimbursement ( still waiting for that to arrive)||Now to finish on a more positive note, the house has great potential, it is a beautiful stone building with stunning views over the loch and we still had a great time . The patio outside was clean and maintained as was the hot tub. The meal at the Marina was excellent, couldn’t fault it and even though it was a chilly evening we were nice and toasty under the patio heater. The Hotbox experience was enjoyed too. ||Sadly we won’t be back and couldn’t recommend it, which is a real shame as it could be a first class resort due to its location and potential.... Read more

Booked a 2 hour session at the spa whilst on holiday in Perthshire. Simply a great experience made us all want to go back. The combination of a hot tub, wood smoke from the fire and the cold water of the loch was unforgettable. I don’t think anyone would regret a visit to this spa it was incredible. Fantastic day doing watersports and then eating by the water at the Ferryman’s inn at the Marina. Service was outstanding even though we were a large group (17 of us)- nothing was too much trouble. Will definitely be back soon!... Read more

Stayed in one of the houseboats which were great, a bit annoying that you have to wear a lifejacket to get to and from the houseboat. It’s cool how you can sit on top of them and look over the loch.... Read more

Beware. This company take a £300 holding deposit from you (for any damage) for their house boats at the time of booking, which is refunded after check out. They say it is a pending payment but they actually take the money as a transaction. Despite being told by Taymouth marina the deposit has been refunded and released, we have never received a penny back into our account. So now we have effectively paid double. Over two weeks later after being told this money should be back in our account, we are still waiting. I would love to know how many other people have had a similar experience. Despite a great stay we absolutely will not be back and not recommend to anyone. Now having to claim the money back from the bank.... Read more

Stayed for a few days here as a Birthday treat and for the price paid expected good things The accommodation overall was good apart from issues with the hot water for the shower, eventually accommodation staff ended up changing our room which wasted precious time The room we were moved to had a temperamental heating water problem also but decided to live with it and not waste anymore of our time The real problems began when we visited the onsite bar / restaurant. We waited nearly 40/45 minutes for any food to come out and when it did it was totally shocking!!! On one plate we had burned / overdone chicken goujouns and in the other we had RAW !!!! chicken in the chicken salad. The waitress acted as if it was normal practise suggested we order something else but it would take some time . We decided to leave and not risk waiting another 40/50 mins for food! Not once did the waitress offer any sort of apology or show any kind of care. The duty manager did apologise and agreed that it wasn’t acceptable and said he had issues all weekend with staff but then insisted on charging for the 3 soft drinks that we had whilst waiting for our food order After another conversation he then agreed that we didn’t need to pay for them. Total embarrassment !!! The Mariner isn’t close to any other food / drink establishments so you’re pretty much stuck there unless your willing to drive to others. On other visits to the bar we found the tables to be dirty and the drink service to be slow and the staff seemed very unhappy. The Spa experience.itself was good but be warned you have to pay extra for dressing gowns / slippers etc Raised all of this with management who did agree that our stay was dogged with issues and refunded part of our stay … so overall our precious time off and Birthday celebrations were pretty much ruined Will re visit the area as the location is stunning but will not be recommending this place to anyone any time soon.... We went to Ferryman's inn for dinner last night. I am afraid the time we waited for our main courses was totally unacceptable. It took.more than 1 hour and we had 2 very hungry children with us. The lady who served us was very apologetic about the wait and was extremely friendly and helpful. That is the only reason I have given 3 for service as if it wasn't for her it would have been 1. The food was very good and the location is excellent so I have scored an overall 4.... Read more
